We've scouted Dinkum's map for the best areas to set up your base tent.
Dinkum is a game that allows you to explore new lands and build your very own town. When you first arrive, you are tasked with finding a spot for the base tent, around which will revolve the town you build. Selecting a location for your base tent is very important, and the choice should be made carefully. This is not only where your town is going to begin, but it is the place you’ll be visiting the most. There are plenty of areas to choose from, but you’ll want to make sure that it is in an optimal location in order to make the best of your time.

When you first arrive, you might find it overwhelming to find a spot. If you’re having trouble deciding where to set up, here are some of the best places where you can set up your base tent.
Building your town in the desert will allow more room for it to grow. There are quite a few NPCs which you will have to craft shops and other buildings for. Setting up here will make sure that you have plenty of room for all your needs.
Make sure you save space for your crops to grow and reserve places for any animals you may want to tame later down the road. Most plains have minerals, but clearing those out will leave you with enough room for what you need to build.
Setting up on an island will make sure that your town is located in one spot and one spot only. You can build bridges to the mainland and claim the island as your own. You don't want to pick a small island, but one that is big enough to support all the buildings and farmland that you may need.

You’ll be surrounded by water on all sides, so you can fish anywhere you like. Just be sure to watch out for crocodiles, sharks, and jellyfish.
It might sound weird, but who doesn't want their house to be surrounded by a bunch of dingoes? Sure the location's look may not the most appealing, but building near a dingo den has its benefits.
Every time you restart the game, new animals will spawn. The dingoes will do most of the work for you by killing off any other nearby animals making it easy to get meat. It will also be easier to trap animals to send them off to be researched, and you won't have to worry about taming them right away.
If you’re someone who likes to fish rather than foraging for fruit, then building by any source of water is good for you. Building by a river has many other benefits too. Not only can you fish, but you can have the river run through the center of your town and decorate the river banks to make your town gorgeous.
If you earn enough permit points, you will be able to build bridges connecting one half of your town to the other over the river. When you craft a boat, you can drop it off in the river by your town and have easy access to transportation. If you're lucky, you might even be able to find some mangrove trees along the river.
Setting up your base tent by the ocean not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but it allows you to catch more fish while listening to the calming waves. New seashells will spawn every once in a while making for easy money.

If you’re lucky enough, you can even set up near an oyster which will spawn a pearl every now and then. By building here, you’ll still be connected to the mainland, and sharks might be an issue, but you’ll have that beach house you’ve always wanted.
Placing the tent in the center of the map is one of the best options for you. This will put you in the middle of everything, and all corners of the map will be an equal distance away. It makes for easy traveling, and you don't have to worry about getting lost.
This way, you can experience a little bit of everything. Depending on what map is generated for you, your town might be in different territories, but you won't have to worry about traveling far.
Building your town next to a radio tower is one of the best places you can build. Once you complete fixing a radio tower, you will be able to teleport between the towers you have finished fixing. This will allow you to travel all the way across the map in only a second rather than walking all the way to where you want to go.
It might not be the most pleasing to the eye, so if you want your town to look pretty, this might not be the best option for you. However, having a radio tower nearby will allow you to easily travel home and drop off anything you may have picked up along the way. You can easily go home, drop off your things and go right back out to adventuring without having to worry about a full inventory.
